The mortal remains of Junior Commission Officers (JCOs) of 4 Assam Regiment, who died due to collapse of a building at Solan in Himachal Pradesh, arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday.

A total of 13 JCOs died in the incident, of which 9 are from the northeastern states.

A special Air Force aircraft brought the 9 bodies from Chandigarh Air Base.

The aircraft delivered the mortal remains of two individuals at Imphal, four at Silchar and three at Guwahati.

The names of the gallant soldiers from Assam are Sub Maj Prodip Chandra Bhuyan from Nagaon, Sub Bisharsing Basumatary from Dhubri, N/Sub M Rajkishore Singha from Hailakandi, Sub Ajit Kumar Singha from Hailakandi, Sub Sujit Sharma from Karimganj and Sub Kumar Chorei from Karimganj.

While Sub Henkhomang Gangte is from Happy Valley in Meghalaya’s Shillong, Sub K Lalson Vaiphei is from Manipur’s Churachandpur and N/Sub M Nobin Chandra Singh is from Manipur’s Thoubal.

Other 4 Assam regiment personnel who also died in the mishap include Sub Balwinder Singh from Jind in Haryana; Sub Yogesh Kumar from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh; N/Sub Vinod Kumar from Rewari in Haryana and Sub Rajen Bahadur.

The mortal remains of Sub Maj Prodip Chandra Bhuyan, Sub Bisharsing Basumatary and Sub Henkhomang Gangte arrived at the Air Force Station in Guwahati on Tuesday.

On the arrival of the mortal remains of the Assam Regiment personnel, a wreath laying ceremony was organised where wreaths were laid by Air Commodore T Mare, AOC, Air Force Station Guwahati, Brig RK Gaikwad, Commandant Assam Regt Centre, Shillong and other senior officers, informed guwahati-based defence PRO Lt Col P Khongsai.

Thereafter, the bodies of the martyrs were sent to their respective places with escorts, Khongsai added.
