Assam has registered the highest number sedition cases under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Out of the 27 cases registered under UAPA, 17 cases are sedition.

The latest report of the National Crime Record Bureau’s (NCRB) has revealed this.

In 2018 a total number 70 cases were registered under UAPA and in 2017, 35 cases were registered country-wide.

Assam has also earned the dubious distinction of recording the highest number of 66 cases of rape and murders in 2018.

Despite UP having six times the population, Assam has surpassed the record of rape and murders, the report said.

Further, in 2017, Assam recorded 27 cases of rape and murders, the report said.

Meanwhile, India has witnessed 7 per cent increase in cases of violence against women. In 2018, the total number of cases of violence against women has been recorded as 3.78 lakh cases. UP has recorded the highest number of cases of violence against women.
