Almost all schools in Guwahati will remain closed on Wednesday as the central trade unions have called for a general strike or ‘Bharat Bandh’ against “anti-labour policies” of the government.
Ten central trade unions–INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC and several sectoral independent federations & associations–have called for the nationwide strike on Wednesday.
“Most of the private schools in Guwahati including Delhi Public School (DPS), Shrimanta Shankar Academy and National Public Schools (NPS) have announced off in view of the general strike on January 8,” said an education department official.
Sources said many parents in city have received messages from the schools of their kids informing them that educational institutes will be closed on Wednesday.
