The NF Railway Women Welfare Organization (NFRWWO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Prayas JAC Society to run an open shelter home for the care and protection of vulnerable children.

As per the MoU, the shelter home has been set up at platform number 1 of the Guwahati Railway Station, Railway officials said.

The shelter home will provide care and protection to vulnerable children coming in contact with Railways, rescued by Railway Protection Force (RPF) & Government Railway Police (GRP) or Childline, Child Help Desk and others concerned at Guwahati Railway Station or at any place adjacent to the railway station, they said.

“The open shelter has approximately 2000 square feet of accommodation and would be able to accommodate 25 children,” said an official.

It also has a dormitory, a sick-room, first aid room, two bathrooms, counselling/office room and one store, he added.

The shelter would provide basic services to the children such as nutrition, psycho-social support and medical aid etc.

It will also be used as transit in restoring the children with their families by following the laid down process under Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

The NFRWWO will provide one caretaker to guard the property and look after the assets of the shelter, said the officail.

However, the operational expenditures for running the open shelter would be provided by the Prayas JAC Society.

The shelter will be made operational after all the necessary clearances and licenses are obtained by Prayas JAC Society.

The society had earlier set up open shelters in five cities which include Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Danapur, Samastipur.
