The second edition of Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) will kick off from October 25.
Around 108 films from 50 countries will be screened at this seven-day fest. The festival will open with Jahnu Barua’s Bhoga Khirikee which is yet to release.
Jyoti Chitraban (Film Studio) Society is organizing this festival, in association with Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute.
“We are going to have 108 films from 50 countries.
Till now, films from 48 countries have been enlisted. Our own Jahnu Barua’s upcoming film ‘Bhoga Khirikee’ will be the inaugural film of the festival in 2018. I think, GIFF will have the Indian premiere of the film,” said Jyoti Chitraban Chairman Pabitra Margherita.
Films from countries like Spain, France, Argentina, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Cambodia, Croatia, Latvia, Czech Republic, Israel, Greece, Russia, Turkey, Philippines, Iran, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Qatar, Indonesia, Portugal, Venezuela, Sri Lanka and Mexico will be screened.
GIFF Festival Director Monita Borgohain informed that this year, ASEAN will be the focus region instead of the usual practice of having a focus country.
“We will have around 16 films from 10 countries of the ASEAN region. GIFF Artistic Director Rahul Jain is talking to the embassies of these countries. This is done in line with the Act East Policy of the government,” she added.
