In its bid to ensure that no person goes to sleep on an empty stomach, Feeding India, an NGO, has installed a ‘Happy Fridge‘ in Guwahati.
Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Monday formally launched the Happy Fridge installed at Deorah Complex in city’s Gnaeshguri area.

People can store fresh food in these refrigerators which can then be taken by those in need.
“People who are left with extra food can leave the excess amount in the fridge and anyone in need can immediately and anonymously access this food, with dignity,” said a Feeding India official.
Apart from food, people can also donate clothes for those in need.

People who wish to donate or install such a Happy Fridge in their locality can contact Feeding India Guwahati Chapter at 69138 32090 or Sachin Jha, City Head at 78965 95706.
The organisation’s volunteers and vehicles collect the donated items or people can directly leave food in the fridge, he said.
Earlier in July last year, the Jorhat chapter of Feeding India installed a Happy Fridge in the upper Assam town. It is the first community fridge in the Northeast.
