Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal playing cricket to mark inauguration of the TG Baruah Memorial Media T20 Cricket Tournament 2020 at Judges' Field in Guwahati on Monday.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday inaugurated the 7th TG Baruah memorial media T20 cricket tournament at Judges’ field in Guwahati.

Speaking on the occasion, Assam chief minister Sonowal said, “Sports, education and culture are important components of a human life.”

“If we could integrate these components in our life, they would generate tremendous positive force in society and develop human values. This would also help in developing sports as a way of life,” Sonowal said.

Appreciating the media fraternity for organizing the T20 cricket tournament in the memory of late TG Baruah, the chief minister said the tournament would inspire youth to take up sports as a career and also developing the sporting environment in the state.

The Assam chief minister also recalled the contributions of late TG Baruah in the field of journalism and the social life of the state.

Assam commerce and industry minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi, president of the Assam Cricket Association Ramen Dutta, former cricketer Rajesh Bora and several other senior journalists were present on the occasion.

While sharing a video on his twitter handle where he is seen introducing himself with the players, trying some shots, Assam chief minister Sonowal stated: “Tried a few shots at inauguration of the 7th TG Baruah Memorial Media T20 Cricket Tournament 2020 at Judges’ Field, Guwahati.”

“Cricket has always been one of my favourite sports and taking to the field reminded me of my college days,” said, Sonowal, who was himself a sportsperson and a former union minister of sports.
