Gradual rise in COVID-19 cases in Assam, 328 cases detected in State since April 1

There has been a gradual rise in COVID-19 cases in Assam.

A total of 70 COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam on Monday.

With this Assam’s active COVID-19 cases tally has risen to 627.

Although Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said that “Assam is COVID free”, the numbers say otherwise.

While on Monday (April 5), 70 COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam, 69 cases were detected on Sunday (April 4).

On Saturday (April 3) Assam logged 68 cases.

On April 2, 63 cases were detected in Assam.

58 cases were detected on April 1.

Since April 1, Assam has recorded a total of 328 COVID-19 cases.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been severely criticised for his ‘irresponsible’ remark – “no need to wear mask”.

Himanta Biswa Sarma during an interview had said: “In Assam, there is no Covid. Now we have to revive the economy. If we wear a mask, then how can beauty parlours function? I will tell people when to wear the mask, if there is a need.”

The COVID-19 caseload in India has seen massive surge in the past couple of weeks.

India, on Monday, reported 96,982 fresh COVID-19 cases and 446 related deaths.

Of these, 47,288 cases were reported in Maharashtra alone.

Maharashtra imposed full lockdown on weekends and fresh restrictions to last through April.

Night curfew has been imposed in Delhi following rapid and steep surge in COVID-19 cases.
