Chief of Army’s Red Horns Division Maj Gen Deepak Mehra met Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and discussed security issues concerning the state.
Defence spokesman, Lt col P Khongsai said this on Friday and added that the General spoke to the CM about the security situation in lower Assam and the contribution of Indian Army to support the government to contain insurgency.
The GOC also briefed the Chief Minister regarding various initiatives and projects undertaken by the Army to constructively engage the local youths.
It may be mentioned here that in the year 2019 alone, approx 200 students have been sponsored by the Indian Army for various National Integration Tours under Operation Sadbhavna.
“The Army is also taking initiatives to undertake employment generation schemes for the economic upliftment of local populace from underdeveloped remote regions of Assam, ” Khongsai said.
The GOC reassured the Chief Minister that the armed forces are closely monitoring the situation as prevailing in the Area and will proactively support all initiatives to maintain peace and order.
