Renowned folk singer and musician Loknath Goswami was on Saturday presented Moghai Ojah Award at  a function at the Jorhat District Library Auditorium here.

The award was instituted in 2011 by the Jorhat district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP).

The award was presented to Goswami by the State AJYCP president Rana Pratap Baruah.

It carries a cash prize of Rs 21000, a citation, a gamosa and a seleng chadar.

In the function, presided jointly by Bolin Hazarika, a retired professor of JB College here and Pranab Jyoti Saikia, the AJYCP Jorhat district unit president, was attended by several prominent persons.

The speakers in their speeches paid glowing tributes to Ojah and also praised Goswami for his enormous contribution towards promoting and popularizing of folk music and culture.

The AJYCP had installed a bust of Oja at MG Road near the Jorhat police station here and the intersection has been named Moghai Ojha Tiniali since 2016.
