Days after a six-month-old foetus which was recovered from the washroom of Imphal-Guwahati-New Delhi AirAsia flight toilet (read on July 25 last) after the plane landed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi from Guwahati, police have decided to file a charge sheet against the 19-year-old mother, without arresting her.

A report in the The Indian Express stated that the woman, a taekwondo player, had initially denied being the mother, but admitted to it after she was grilled by the police. DCP (Airport) Sanjay Bhatia confirmed they received the autopsy report, which states it was “stillborn premature delivery”.

The report further stated that a case under IPC Section 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) was registered, police said. It may be recalled that on July 25 last, the foetus was found while the cabin crew was checking the washrooms. The Delhi Police was informed about the discovery of the still born baby by an AirAsia manager and its officers boarded the aircraft once it landed in Delhi. The infant was found “lifeless and abandoned”.

A doctor from the medical team at Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport confirmed that the baby was delivered onboard. The baby’s mother is believed to have boarded the flight from Guwahati, a police officer said.
