A popular floating restaurant at fancy Bazaar in Guwahati – South Coast Restaurant – has capsized in the Brahmaputra River.

The boat restaurant capsized following an increase in the water levels of River Brahmaputra over the past couple of days.

Officials of the inland water transport department suspects breach in the hull of the vessel may have led to its capsize.

According to reports, the floating restaurant had remained close for the past couple of years.

Meanwhile, the inland water transport department are making arrangements to pull the boat out of the river.

The restaurant was run by a businessman named Sunit Beria after taking the boat on lease from the inland water transport department.

A detailed investigation into the incident might be launched by the department after pulling the boat out of water.

The floating restaurant was one of the most popular restaurants in Guwahati, where people in large numbers used to turn up every day.
