As part of its operations to enhance safety in trains, the NF Railway for the first time in Assam is carrying out track renewal works by using machines such as Quick Relaying System at night.

The NF Railway has also used Ballast Cleaning Machines, Dynamic Track Stabilizers and Ballast Regulating Machines for faster execution of the safety works.

The NF Railway has carried out major maintenance and improvement works to enhance safety in train operations.

Two major components of safe train operations are – optimal condition of the rail on which the train runs and the sleepers and ballast cushion on which the rails are laid.

Railway tracks are maintained and inspected on regular intervals to ensure that every section is fit for train operations.

While the rails need to be checked for defects like fracture, wear & tear and corrosion, and then replaced periodically, the quantity and quality of the ballast are also of utmost importance.

“The NF Railway has carried out 111.148 TKM through rail renewal works up to July 2021, which is the highest ever in NFR,” said a statement issued by Subhanan Chanda, chief public relations officer (CPRO), NFR.

Similarly, during July, the NFR carried out rail renewal works at 42.860 TKM, which is also the highest ever in one month, the statement said.

“For the first time in Assam, track renewal work using mechanised Quick Relaying System is being done at night to have minimum effect on regular train operations during daytime,” the statement said.

Moreover, NFR has carried out other track maintenance and renewal works up to July this year which includes- 42.225 TKM sleeper renewal, 46.315 TKM fitting renewal, 22.637 TKM deep screening of ballast beneath railway track, etc. for safer and comfortable travel experience of railway passengers.

In addition, regular inspection including day and night patrolling of track is also being conducted on daily basis.
