Multiple FIRs have been filed against former Batadraba MLA and BJP leader Angoorlata Deka by various branches of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) for making derogatory remarks against dentists.

The Lower Assam branch of the Indian Dental Association has filed an FIR against former Angoorlata Deka at Patacharkuchi police station.

Besides, the Rangia District Surgeon Association also filed an FIR against the former MLA.

The Assam state branch of the Indian Dental Association filed an FIR at the Dispur police station on September 21.

Responding to the call by the Assam state branch of IDA, the Lower Assam branch of IDA filed the FIR on September 22.

FIRs were also filed at Barpetaroad police station, Bongaigaon PS, Nalbari PS and Kokrajhar PS of Lower Assam.

Dental surgeons of Morigaon also filed a separate FIR.

With the expiry of the IDA’s ultimatum to Angoorlata Deka to seek unconditional apology for her derogatory remarks, the Association has been compelled to lodge FIRs against Deka.

The time limit to Angoorlata Deka expired on September 19, 2021.

In its FIR filed at Patacharkuchi police station, the Lower Assam branch of the IDA said Angoorlata in a press meet on September 16, 2021 “levelled accusation against the dentists in general by saying “It is seen that dentists put their elbows on the chest of 13-year-old, 12 or 14-year-old young girls while doing their procedures and we should put a stop to this practice.”
