Here is some good news for the people of North-east, particularly the northern belt.

The Tezpur-New Delhi flight services will resume from Sunday after a long gap of 15 years.

The first Kolkata-Jabalpur-Delhi passenger flight will take off from Tezpur airport at 1:40 pm on February 18.

The flight is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kolkata airport which will land at the Salonibari airport on the outskirts of Tezpur at 1:20 pm and then the same flight will take off at 1:40 pm from Tezpur towards Delhi via Kolkata and Jabalpur, reports stated.

Reports added the service is being provided by the Zoom Jet Airways.

The flight will provide regular service from Delhi at 9 am daily to Tezpur via Kolkata and Jabalpur.

With the induction of the flight service, a long felt need of the people from the northern belt of the region will be fulfilled.

Notably, the Tezpur airport was inducted in 1942 during the World War-II by the British Royal Indian Air Force at Salonibari.

In subsequent time, the Indian Air Force simultaneously started passenger service for people of the region, including the neighbouring hill state of Arunachal Pradesh.

The airport also led to its improvement into an Army base in 1959.
