Assam fashion designer Manjushree Saikia has taken hand-woven textiles of the state to a global stage.

Saikia owns a fashion label Ura Maku that sells traditional and modern silhouettes made of hand-woven fabrics and comprising designs that has been inspired from nature.

The Mumbai based fashion designer is an alumnus of National Institute of Fashion Technology Mumbai.

Hailing from North Lakhimpur in Assam, the talented fashion designer has already made a name with her elegant designs crafted out of hand-woven textiles like eri, muga, mulberry.

She also uses organic fabric dyes for manufacturing clothes for her fashion label Ura Maku.

Saikia worked as a freelance stylist and designer for two years before establishing Ura Maku in May 2018.

It may be mentioned that Saikia recently made the state proud by becoming one of the six leading couturiers to showcase her fashion line in the starting act on the first day of Lakme Fashion Week 2019.

She unveiled her ‘Dawn To Reality’ fashion line during the fashion show’s first day named as GenNext runway programme.

Her designs had been adorned by celebrities such as Kriti Sanon, Kartik Aaryan and Sania Mirza.

Her designs had also been featured in leading fashion magazines such as Vogue India and Grazia.

Although Saikia’s fashion label Ura Maku is based in Mumbai, her designs are sold through websites www.uramaku.com and ikkivi.com.
