Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the state police to initiate action against those involved in spreading a fake tweet, with his name, that has been doing the rounds across social media platforms.
The fake tweet states that the Assam government has decided to close schools and colleges in the state as the COVID-19 cases are on the rise.

Urging people to not pay heed to the misinformation, the Assam chief minister asked the state police to “take note and act” in the matter.
“A FAKE tweet bearing my name is circulating saying that since cases of #COVID19 have gone up schools & colleges are being closed down from Nov 20. This is WRONG & should not be heeded to. Stay off misinformation and fake news!” tweeted the Assam chief minister.
