Dibrugarh: The Equestrian Federation of Assam is organising the 6th edition of the State Games from April 23 to 25 at the Borbari Equestrian Centre in Dibrugarh.

The championships will see the coming together of equestrian enthusiasts from across the state.

The event is being held with the twin objectives of providing competitive opportunities and identifying and nurturing talent.

The Equestrian Federation of Assam, since its inception, has been actively involved in the development of equestrian sports and has hosted several national and international events in Assam and the Northeast region.

The last few years have witnessed a noticeable and growing interest among the sub-junior and junior categories. This has prompted the organisers to host an exclusive state championship for junior and sub-junior categories later this year.

According to SK Barua, President of the Federation, the event will also provide an opportunity to prepare and identify talent for the forthcoming National Games scheduled to be held in 2027 in Shillong, Meghalaya.

The three-day event will feature Jumping, Dressage, and Tent Pegging. All major equestrian contingents/teams of the state, comprising Assam Police, the 47 R&V Squadron of the NCC, and individual senior riders, will participate in the event.

A panel of eminent officials, comprising S. Ramakrishnan, IPS; B.K. Dey Sawian, IPS; Tek Chand from ITBP; along with Sunil Raghuvanshi, Dy Comdt BSF, and Dinesh Rathore, IPS, will oversee the technical conduct of the championships.

On the conclusion of the meet, the Gen OP Malhotra Memorial Trophy, instituted in memory of the founder of modern equestrian sports in India, will be awarded to the Best Rider of the meet.

Hirendra Nath Sarma, Vice Chancellor of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University, graced the opening day and presented medals for the events concluded on the first day.
