The apprehended drug peddlers have been identified as Sohail Khan, Amit Raut, Nanu Hazarikam and Hemanta Saikia.

In the recent past, Dibrugarh police have had massive success against drug peddlers.

In one of the biggest hauls in the state, Dibrugarh police in August this year seized 1.14 kilogram of heroin from Kalibari area of Dibrugarh town.

The estimated value of the seized contraband drugs was around Rs 70.

Cash amounting Rs 19.55 lakh was also seized during the raid.

In another major crackdown in September, Dibrugarh police seized 13.5 kilograms of Tripura ganja and arrested one person from Mohanaghat area of the town.

The arrested person was identified as Hemanta Das and the ganja was seized from his residence.

Fight against drug abuse and drug peddling has gained wings in the last few months.

Not just Dibrugarh but police across the Northeast have made it a point to carry out a crackdown against drug mafia and put full-stop to this mushrooming (illegal) trade.
