Dibrugarh district administration has launched a massive drive to plant 10 lakh saplings in Dibrugarh district.

Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri on Saturday, launched the drive along with Lahowal MLA Rituparna Baruah and Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi by planting saplings at Jokai reserve forest.

Under this programme 25,000 saplings will be planted at the reserve forest.

The massive drive will be held in three phases at government revenue land, grazing land and Sapori land.

“After a discussion  Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked us to launch a drive to plant 10 lakh saplings in Dibrugarh district. Sonowal will participate in the plantation drive programme on June 5 World Environmental Day, in Dibrugarh. The plantation drive will be held in the block and panchayat level,” Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri said.

Madduri informed that they will collect the saplings from social forestry department and territorial forestry for this massive drive. “For the first time such a massive plantation drive has been undertaken by the district administration. We appeal to everybody to plant two saplings in their home on environmental day and support our initiative.

Madduri said they have asked local NGO’s and social organizations to participate in this drive. “We have already formed a committee to monitor the plantation drive and the social organizations have assured help in this regard. We have no government funds for this project. We have discussed with Oil India Limited and they assured to provide Rs 10 lakh for this programme,” Madduri added.
