The curfew will be lifted completely in Guwahati as the situation has improved in the state capital of Assam.

The decision for the complete lifting of the curfew in the city was taken during a law and order review meeting at Brahmaputra State Guest House in Guwahati under the chairmanship of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

A press statement, issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), on Monday night, said: “The meeting decided to lift curfew completely in Guwahati from 6 am tomorrow.”

The broadband internet services will also resume from Tuesday morning.

Informing this, the CMO further informed: “The meeting also decided to resume operation of broadband internet services in entire State from tomorrow morning.”

However, the state government is yet to decide on the resumption of the mobile internet service.

Informing about the state government’s decision on the curfew and broadband service, Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Assam Government has decided to lift curfew completely from Tuesday, December 17, 2019, including the night curfew. The broadband internet connectivity will also stand restored from tomorrow.”

On Monday, the curfew was relaxed for 9 hours, with effect from 6 am to 9 pm in Guwahati.

The curfew was clamped in Guwahati and several other places in Assam as anti-citizenship amendment law turned violent.
