Everything is not good for the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)- both in the public domain and within the party with the fault lines gradually becoming visible.

On Thursday, around 50 AGP members gathered in front of the party headquarters in Guwahati and raised slogans against president Atul Bora, demanding his resignation.

After CAA was passed in parliament there have been widespread protests in Assam and former AGP president and Chief Minister Prafulla Mahanta opposing it openly.

The three cabinet ministers- Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, and Phani Bhusan Choudhury- “claim” to oppose CAA but their participation in BJP‘s “peace rallies” across the state has been portraying a different picture.

Protesting against such stand of the three leaders, a number of AGP workers on Thursday gathered in front of the headquarters and demanded their resignations from the party.

“AGP has always opposed CAA, but Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, and Phani Bhusan Choudhury seem to have gone against the party’s decision,” said an agitating member.

“Their stand has made our head hung in shame. We want them to resign immediately. They stand with the government in its decision to impose CAA in Assam,” the member added.

“Such an act has maligned AGP’s image in the state. If AGP has to resurrect then we don’t need such leaders who support policies and acts that are anti-Assamese,” the member further said.
