Amid nationwide lockdown in the wake of COVID19 pandemic, a teacher has been arrested by Lakhimpur Police for posting communally offensive contents on social media.

The arrested person, identified as Pranabjyoti Sarma of Jamunakhat in Narayanpur, is a school teacher.

He teaches at Uttar Kholaguri LP School in Bihpuria.

Sarma was arrested by police from his residence.

A case No 51/2020 has been registered against him at the Narayanpur police station.

The Lakhimpur Police have registered 17 cases for violating lockdown norms and posting provocative contents on social media. In connection with such case, the police have arrested 28 people and seized 16 vehicles.

The police also realised fines to the tune of Rs. 84,000 from the violators of lockdown norms.

The Lakhimpur Police sent a strong reminder that “we talk tough, act tougher” to those who thought otherwise to the cops’ earlier warning – “Please put your ugly thoughts behind or be behind the bars by sharing it on social media”.

Meanwhile, relief materials consisting of food and other essential commodities have been pouring in from various sources in Lakhimpur district for the lockdown-hit needy and poor people.

Relief from the district administration, various organizations and private donors are reaching to all the needy families in the district affected by 21-day lockdown imposed in the wake of COVID19 pandemic.

The aged, infirm, differentially-abled and pregnant women of the rural and urban areas have been specially covered by these relief distributions.

Benevolent individuals are also serving tea and snacks among the on-duty police and security personnel at different parts of North Lakhimpur at night and in the morning.

Prominent traders Jagadish Bajaj and Ramesh Bajaj of North Lakhimpur have adopted a village under Kamalabaria Gaon Panchayat in Lakhimpur to provide relief materials.

The business duo has been distributing food and essential items among the daily wage workers and the poor of the Bapokhat village during the lockdown period.

The Lakhimpur Police have also been distributing and facilitating the distribution of relief materials among the urban poor at various places in North Lakhimpur and also delivering medicines to the distress callers who cannot come out from their homes.
