Covid19 impact: Section 144 CrPC clamped in Lakhimpur district

The Lakhimpur district administration has imposed a prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC, 1973 due to the detection of fresh cases of Covid19 in the state in general and in Lakhimpur district in particular.

In the order, vide No LMJ/12/2020/99, issued on April 9, Lakhimpur deputy commissioner Khargeswar Pegu, the district administration has imposed restrictions on public movements.

The deputy commissioner has ordered to wear face masks by individuals in all the public places, places of work, offices, markets, public and private transport and to keep social distance.

The order also bans spitting in public places.

The district administration has asked all the government and non-government institutions, business places, shops, hotels and restaurants to provide thermal scanners, sanitizers and wash facilities at the entry points.

Any violation of these restrictions would attract proceedings under Section 50-60 of Assam Disaster Management Act, 2005, the order said.

Earlier, a hotel in the heart of North Lakhimpur town, was sealed by the Lakhimpur district administration as a checked-in guest coming from outside Assam tested Covid19 positive.

Maple Leaf Hotel was sealed by the Lakhimpur district administration after one of its guests, travelling from New Delhi, was found positive for Covid19.

The guest had undergone Covid19 test in New Delhi prior to his departure to North Lakhimpur and the report reached North Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital on Monday.

On April 6, another guest in the hotel, who checked-in after travelling from outside, tested positive for Covid19.

The entire staff of the hotel had to undergo RT-PCR test and were asked not to leave the hotel premises before arrival of the test reports.

The Lakhimpur district administration has announced mandatory Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) for the travellers arriving at Lilabari Airport.
