With the demise of six more positive patients in Assam, the COVID19 death toll in the state increased to 76 on Friday.

The news has been confirmed by Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Friday.

Those, who succumbed to COVID19 on Friday. are 75-year-old Abdul Halim Laskar and 55-year-old Alekjan Bibi from Karimganj; 54-year-old Sarafuddin Ahmed from Nalbari; 85-year-old Parvati Das, 60-year-old Prafulla Sharma and 78-year-old Saroj Kr Majumdar from Kamrup Metro, the health minister said.

Assam has so far registered a total of 28,791 COVID19 positive cases including 8,016 active cases following the death of six more positive patients on Friday while 3 cases migrated from the state.

The deadly disease has claimed the lives of 76 positive patients in Assam so far.

Earlier, a total of 20,699 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have been discharged from various civil, district, and model hospitals across Assam after they tested negative for the virus.

In an earlier tweet on Friday, health minister Sarma said three members of the core health team of Assam have tested positive for COVID19 in the last one week while fighting against the pandemic in the state.

The health minister said the members of the core health team, who have been infected by the virus, are Pradip Timung, additional director of the health department; Sourav Senapati, deputy secretary of the department, and Dr Abhijeet Sarma, superintendent of Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
