The Assam government has directed that all the shops and commercial establishments across the state would shut down their shutters at 11 AM with effect from May 16, 2021.

The decision has been taken in view of the rising Covid19 cases across Assam.

An order, issued on Saturday by the chief secretary of Assam, Jishnu Barua said: “In continuation of the order of even number dated 12th May, 2021 and in exercise of the powers, conferred under Section 22(2) (h) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the undersigned, in his capacity as chairperson, State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, Assam, hereby issues the following directives which shall come into force with effect from 5 AM of May 16, 2021 until further orders”.

According to the order “all shops and commercial establishments shall shut down at 11 AM on all days”.

As per the order, all vehicles other than government vehicles and those exempted vide Order No. ASDMA.2412020/R-21250 dated May 13, 2021 will be allowed to ply in accordance with an odd- even formula to be decided by the jurisdictional District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) between 5 AM to 12 noon.

“However, this restriction shall not apply to personal vehicles used for medical emergencies,” the order said.

There shall be total ban on movement of individuals from 12 noon to 5 AM daily, except for exemptions specified in Order No. ASDNIA.24/20201R-2/250 dated May 13, 2021, it added.

The order further said other restrictions as notified vide Order Na. ASDMA.24/2020/Pt-2/241 dated May 12, 2021 and clarifications issued vide Order No. AMMA.24/20201Pt-2/250 dated May 13, 2021 shall continue except the modification of timing as above.

“The above order is issued to further strengthen the containment of spread of COVID-19,” the chief secretary of Assam further said in the order.
