The Assam government has planned to procure 1 crore doses of Covaxin so that the maximum number of people can get the Covid19 vaccine administered.

Assam’s principal secretary to the health department, Samir Sinha has written to the chairman and managing director of the Bharat Biotech International at Hyderabad with a request to supply the required amount of Covaxin doses to the state.

Along with other states of the country, Assam will also require a huge number of Covid19 vaccines after May 1 as from this date anyone below the age category of 45 years will be eligible to get themselves vaccinated for Covid19.

“Pursuant to Government of India’s announcement regarding a Liberalized and Accelerated Phase 3 Strategy of the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme from May 1, 2021, Government of Assam plans to avail of this new initiative, so that maximum number of eligible people in the below 45 years age category in the state are able to get the benefits of vaccination in the shortest possible time,” Sinha said in the letter.

Under the provisions of the strategy, the health & family welfare department of the Assam government “proposes to procure 1 (one) crore doses of Covaxin at the rate to be fixed by Government of India”, Sinha said in the letter to the CMD of Bharat Biotech International.

“For this purpose, the terms & conditions of delivery and payment along with schedule of supplies may please be intimated at the earliest,” Sinha said in the letter.

The state’s principal secretary to health said the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam will be the nodal agency for this procurement of the vaccine on behalf of the Assam government and, the managing director of NHM, Assam, Dr. Lakshmanan, will be the nodal officer.
