The Covid-19 positive cases in Assam inched closer to the 7,000-mark after 273 fresh cases reported on Friday night and took the state’s overall tally to 6,919.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Guwahati city alone witnessed a surge of 203 cases on Friday.
“Alert ~ 273 new #COVID19+ cases detected in Assam today. Guwahati city alone sees a surge of 203 cases today and time for us to follow lockdown instructions. Your cooperation is vital. Total cases 6919 Active cases 2660 11:40 PM/ June 26/ Day’s total 273,” Sharma said in a tweet.

The recovery count also went up with 214 fresh discharges, taking the total number to 4,247.
“Discharge Alert. Happy that our discharge & recovery rate continue to be high at 63.4%. Today 214 more patients have been discharged in Assam. Total Discharged Patients – 4247 Active Patients – 2387 6:55 PM/June 26/Day’s total 214,” Sharma Tweeted.
Sarma said that an 800-beded temporary hospital for COVID-19 patients is under construction at Khanapara field in Guwahati & will soon be functional.
The health minister said that the government has so far conducted 36, 2,713 tests in the state.
“We are leaving no stone unturned in order to contain #COVID19 in Assam. Delighted to share that with the continuous efforts of our team, we have been able to complete 362713 tests so far,” he said.
