In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the Assam government has exempted every employee from each and every office/institution from biometric attendance till March 31.

“In view of the threat of novel coronavirus in India and as a part to ensure possible preventive measures to stop the virus from spreading, all offices in the state/ institutions (both public.private)/ PSUs/ commercial organizations are directed to stop the use of such a biometric attendance system where physical attendance is required to record attendance,” an Assam government advisory stated on Monday.

“However, any other biometric attendance system where physical contact is not required (like face recognition etc), shall continue to used as earlier,” the advisory added.

“During this period, the attendance may be marked manually in the official registers and maintained by the head of the office appropriately. The order shall remain in force till March 31,” the advisory added.

On March 8 the central government employees were exempted from biometric attendance in the wake of coronavirus outbreak across the globe.
