Guwahati: The Congress party on Saturday evening released its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly election 2026.
The list was approved by the partyโs All India Congress Committee (AICC)’s Central Election Committee and includes candidates from constituencies across Lower Assam, Central Assam, and Upper Assam.
Among the key nominees, Kartik Chandra Ray has been fielded from Golakganj, Wazed Ali Choudhury from Birsing Jarua, and Amrit Badsha from Bilasipara. Mohibur Rohman will contest from Mankachar, while Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam has been named the candidate for Goalpara East.
The party has nominated Kishor Kumar Brahma from Dudhnoi (ST), Nurul Islam from Srijangram, and Abdul Khaleque from Mandia. Senior leader Rakibuddin Ahmed will contest from Chamaria, while Pranjit Choudhury has been nominated from Rangia.
From the Guwahati city area, Kishore Kumar Baruah will contest from Dimoria (SC) and Santanu Borah from New Guwahati.
Rijumoni Talukdar has been named the candidate for Mangaldai, while Jhilli Choudhury will contest from Hojai. Batash Urang will represent the party in Dhekiajuli, and Kartik Chandra Kurmi in Rangapara.
In upper Assam, Sankar Jyoti Kutum has been nominated from Gohpur and Sailen Sonowal from Dhemaji (ST). Devid Phukan will contest from Tinsukia and Bipul Gogoi from Tingkhong, and Sagarika Bora has been fielded from Dergaon.
In South Assam, Dhrubjyoti Purkayastha will contest from Dholai (SC) while Aminur Rashid Choudhury has been named the candidate from Karimganj South.
The Congress has also kept seven constituencies aside for alliance partners–Left Parties, AJP, and APHLC as part of seat-sharing negotiations. These include BhowanipurโSorbhog, Bajali, Palasbari, Guwahati Central, Goreswar, Morigaon, and Barhampur.
The Congress on March 3 released its first list of 42 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, naming state party president Gaurav Gogoi as its candidate from Jorhat.
Party sources said additional lists of candidates are expected to be announced in the coming days as preparations for the Assembly elections intensify.
