GUWAHATI: In a significant political declaration, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that by 2026, the Congress party will cease to exist in the state.

Briefing the media, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated: “Supporting the Congress party equates to supporting Rahul Gandhi. Supporting the BJP means supporting Narendra Modi.”

“Those who admire Narendra Modi and envision India as a global leader will cast their votes for the BJP in this election,” Sarma said.

The Assam chief minister added: “Conversely, those who put their faith in Rahul Gandhi also acknowledge the dim prospects ahead. Even Rahul Gandhi’s own future appears bleak, let alone that of his followers.”

“We have observed numerous Congress leaders defecting to the BJP and AGP. I firmly believe that by 2026, the Congress party will no longer hold sway in Assam,” Sarma asserted.

Additionally, Sarma predicted that Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah would join the BJP in the early part of 2025.
