However, the eight states of the region should come together and cooperate with each other to promote the entire Northeast as an ideal spot for adventure and tourism in order to get good benefits of the policy, Rijiju added.
He also said that the adventure policy which is being drafted keeping in mind the development of tourism in the Northeast would not be properly utilized if the state governments of the north-eastern states try to get benefits from the policy separately.
The sports minister also said that the region’s culture and natural assets would remain a potential without being exploited sustainably if the state governments of the north-eastern states do not cooperate with each other in trying to promote the region as a combined package for adventure and tourism.
Arunachal Pradesh is currently the only state in the Northeast offering a large number of adventure activities to tourists.
Rijiju also added that the region had to first stop imposing bandhs and shutdowns for development of tourism.
He added that insurgency operations in the past had already affected tourism in the region at a large scale.
