Union minister of state for social justice & empowerment Ramdas Athawale said that NDA Government in the centre was committed to solve flood and erosion problems of Assam.
Speaking at a rally Sengajan Majorbari village in Dhemaji district on Tuesday, Athawale said that central government has taken step for economic empowerment of the rural farmers.
He said the central government considers flood and erosions as farmers’ problems so that it has formulated policy for scientific solution of the long-standing problems.
“Our government is committed to ensure social justice to the poor farmers. I have come to know your problems and firmly assure you that our government must reciprocate your genuine demands,” Athawale said.
“I shall discuss your problems with Assam government and take up it with Central water resources ministry to chalk out the solution measures,” he said.
Assam social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma in her speech laid stress on scientific study on the river basin to ascertain cause of recurring flood and erosion in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Majuli districts.
She emphasized on the need of joint effort of water resources, agriculture and soil erosion departments to control river erosion.
Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu said the state government has constituted five-member ‘Expert Committee’ involving senior engineers of different departments, which has been assigned to conduct systematic study along 70 km river basins in the district.
He said that erosion problems posed by Lali and Brahmaputra is taking serious turn on its right bank after the river course was controlled by erecting boulder spars at Dibrugarh, on its left bank.
