Almost all the northeastern states have received less amount of the central funds than the allocated amount under the ‘Modernisation of Police Forces’ scheme at a time when the government emphasises on strengthening the country’s internal security.

Officials in the union ministry of home affairs said, “Close   and   effective   coordination   is   maintained   amongst security and intelligence agencies at the Centre and the state levels.”

“In  order  to  equip  the  security  forces  with  modern  facilities,  Government  is also implementing the ‘Modernisation of Police Forces’ scheme every year,” the officials said.

Government statistics in possession of Northeast Now said against an allocated amount of Rs 32.23 crore for Assam in 2017-18, the central government has allocated an amount of Rs 28.57 crore in 2018-19.

However, the amount released is much lesser than the allocated amount.

According to the statistics, Rs 5.48 crore was released for Assam in 2017-18 and Rs 5.6722 crore was released in 2018-19, which is much lesser than the allocated amount.

Similarly, an amount of Rs 4.58 crore was allocated for Meghalaya in 2017-18 and an amount of Rs 4.07 crore was allocated in 2018-19.

The released amount was Rs 2.60 crore in 2017-18 and Rs 3.6628 crore in 2018-19.

An amount of Rs 4.79 crore was allocated for Arunachal Pradesh in 2017-18 and Rs 4.25 crore was allocated in 2018-19.

The released amount for Arunachal Pradesh was Rs 3.42 crore in 2017-18 and Rs 1.034 crore in 2018-19.

Government officials said that the Centre reviews  internal  security  situation  in  the  country  on  a regular  basis  and takes  appropriate  measures  to  strengthen security  and  address security  concerns.
