CAB will not impact Northeast’s interests: Himanta Biswa Sarma

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) will not have an impact on the interests of the indigenous people of the state, said Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He was interacting with the journalists in Lakhimpur on Sunday on the sidelines of an event in Lakhimpur.

“CAB will solve the problems of around 5 lakh people of the state,” the minister said.

“Of the 5 lakh people to benefitted by CAB, around 2 lakh people live in Barak Valley,” Sarma reiterated.

“The breakup of these people will be provided in the winter session of the Assam Legislative Assembly,” he added.

Sarma is of the view that Assam will be on the path of development once the issue of these 6 lakh people is ensured.

“The present draft of the CAB will ensure that the unique cultural and ethnic identities of Northeast are not endangered.
