Bulbul will finally sing in Assam on Friday as the much-acclaimed Assamese movie Bulbul Can Sing will hit several silver screens in Assam.

Directed and produced by national awardee Rima Das, the film will have an all India release on (Friday) September 27.

Interacting with the media Das said she decided to release the movie without much promotion as she plans to send ‘Bulbul….’ to the Selection Committee for Oscar Award, Film Federation of India (FFI).

“The committee considers only those films for selection which are commercially released in India between October 1, 2018, to September 30, 2019,” she said.

“And the film must run at least for seven consecutive days,” she added.

She further informed that the entries must reach the FFI office not later than September 7, 2019.

Bulbul Can Sing won the Rajat Kamal for the best Assamese Film at the 66th National Film Awards.

Based against a rural backcloth, Bilbul Can Sing is a story about a girl in rural India who challenges the traditional values and expectations of her family.

The story revolves around a teenage girl- Bulbul- living in a village in Assam, fighting her means through love and loss as she figures out who she really is.

The cast of the film includes Arnali Das, Bonita Thakuriya, Manoranjoan Das, Manabendra Das, and Pakiza Begum.

Bulbul Can Sing so far has been screened in 40 film festivals including Toronto International Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival.

It has bagged thirteen awards so far.

It also won the ‘Best Indie Film’ award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) in Victoria, Australia.

Rima Das’ last directorial venture ‘Village Rockstars’ was India’s official entry to the Oscars.
