Congress MP from Assam Pradyut Bordoloi on Friday said that the Union Budget was presented just to “please the Prime Minister”, hours after Union finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman presented her maiden budget in the Lok Sabha.

“Instead of looking to the Speaker, most of the time the finance minister was looking towards the Prime Minister.  She used Hindi-Urdu-Tamil-English in her speech which was a rhetorical one,” said Bordoloi.

He said that the budget does not have any roadmap. “The budget did not touch any vital issues including agrarian crisis, farmers’ distress, and unemployment. In fact it was a budget to please the corporate,” said Bordoloi.

Referring to the government’s intention of making India a $5 trillion dollar economy by 2025, Bordoloi said, “For this our growth rate should be 12 per cent not 8 per cent.”

He further said that in spite of giving anything to the common people, the government has imposed additional one rupee surcharge on petrol and diesel.
