Former Assam commerce & industry minister and Congress candidate for Nagaon Lok Sabha seat Pradyut Bordoloi offered prayers, and sought blessings at Batadrava Than in Bordowa before filing his nomination papers on Tuesday.
During his visit to the Batadrava Than, the birthplace of great Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardev, Bordoloi was accompanied by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora, former minister Rakibul Hussain, Gautam Bora, other leaders, family members, party workers and supporters.
Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls in the second phase on April 18, 2019.
Tuesday was the last day of filing nomination for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls.
Three-time cabinet minister of Assam, Bordoloi had lost to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Bhaskar Sarmah from the Margherita constituency in the last Assam Assembly polls in 2016.
BJP’s Bhaskar Sarmah won the seat with a margin of over 22,000 votes.
In the ensuing Lok Sabha polls to Nagaon seat, Pradyut Bordoloi is all set to give a tough fight against BJP candidate Rupak Sarmah, who is currently the Nagaon MLA.
Pradyut Bordoloi, who also served as the power minister during Tarun Gogoi’s Congress regime in Assam, is serving as the vice president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
Informing about offering prayers at the historic Batadrava Than in Bordowa near Nagaon town, Bordoloi said: “Offered my prayers and sought blessings, along with party colleagues and family at Batadrava Than in Bordowa, before filing my nomination.”
While uploading a few images on his Twitter handle of the moments before filing his nomination on Tuesday, Bordoloi expressed that he was humbled at the huge gathering of party workers and supporters.
He tweeted: “Extremely humbled by the huge turnout. The love and support of the people of Nagaon was overwhelming.”
