BTC administration moves centre for releasing NDFB cadres from Bhutan’s jails

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) executive member for forest, Ranjit Basumatary said that the BTC administration is taking necessary steps for releasing 25 persons related to the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), who are currently imprisoned in jails in Bhutan.

Speaking to the media at the Bodoland Guest House in Kokrajhar on Monday Basumatary said, “BTC administration has been communicating with the Union home ministry over the release of 25 persons who have been languishing in Bhutan’s jails for many years.”

He informed that several persons including former NDFB cadres had been released from Myanmar’s jails after communication with the central government.

The council will distribute rehabilitation packages among several cadres and members of the NDFB on January 20 to assist them in joining the mainstream.

“Government has been taking measures to extend rehabilitation packages to these cadres”, Basumatary said.

He said that the stone quarries have been reopened for the greater interest of the people from Tuesday, but the reopening has to be maintained following strict guidelines in four districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
