Assam: BTC chief Pramod Boro meets student leaders, organizations to discuss development

Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) chief executive member (CEM) Pramod Boro has met various social and students’ organizations to seek their cooperation in carrying out development activities in the Bodo Territorial Region (BTR).

Interacting with members of these organizations on Monday, Boro said, “It is a historic day as our new council members are sitting with student leaders and civil society organizations for the first time to discuss development in BTR.”

“I myself come from a students’ organization. We have limited capacity as a council government, but we can definitely develop the region with cooperation from everyone,” he said.

The CEM also urged the organizations to dedicatedly carry on with their activities in their respective fields of interest and the council will facilitate their programmes.

“We have a vision for the development of all communities residing in BTR. Community participation is a must if we are to achieve success in governance,” said Boro.

Boro also stressed on setting up a Bodoland language and cultural research centre to promote and develop the language and indigenous culture of the region.

All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) president Dipen Boro said, “The new government in BTC should work in a transparent and result-oriented manner.”

“The different organizations should not be driven by emotions and instead work towards bringing peace and tranquility in the region,” he said.

Meanwhile, the new council has initiated the process for solving land related issues, establishing a community happiness cell in the social welfare department and setting up a development board for all communities.

BTC speaker Katiram Boro, deputy CEM Gobindo Basumatary, Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania and several BTC members were present on the occasion.
