Union Minister of State for Road Transport and National Highways, General (retired) VK Singh on Tuesday said the bridge over river Brahmaputra connecting Majuli is in his ministry’s top priority list.
Union minister Singh informed this to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during a meeting at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati on Tuesday evening.
Talking about Dhubri-Phulbari bridge over the river Brahmaputra, Sonowal drew the minister’s intervention for the bridge to give BBIN relation a new dimension.
They had discussions on the steps for the expeditious implementation of the ongoing projects related to National Highways in the state.
Chief Minister Sonowal recently had a meeting with Union Minister of Road Transport Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on August 20.
Conceding to Sonowal’s request for sending a minister to take stock of the progress of the construction and repair of National Highways in Assam, General (retired) VK Singh visited Assam and had a meeting with all the stakeholders on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Sonowal requested the MoS for expeditious completion of NH projects in Assam.
The duo also talked on the bridge from Numaligarh to Gohapur, as the union minister said that his ministry is actively working on the project as it will hit the ground very soon.
Chief Minister Sonowal thanked the union minister for taking keen interest in the projects of NE.
The union minister will go to Itanagar on Wednesday by road and on the way he will inspect the construction works being undertaken presently.
Chief Secretary Alok Kumar and Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Sanjay Lohiya were also present at the meeting.
