Samahar Natya Gosthee announced that it would organise the 12th Annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Inter-State Drama Festival in September this year with participation of theatre groups from across Assam and outside.

The seven-day festival, which has been supported by Government of India’s Ministry of Culture and Assam Government’s Cultural Affairs Department, will begin from September 10, 2018 at the District Library Auditorium in Guwahati, stated a press communiqué issued by the secretary, Samahar Natya Gosthee.

In a meeting recently held at its office, Samahar formed an organising committee for the theatre extravaganza, which has become a landmark festival in the hallowed memory of the father of Assamese mobile theatre and firebrand freedom fighter – Brajanath Sharma.

Among others, the committee has a few prominent personalities as advisors like lyricist Kirtikamal Bhuyan, social activists Abani Sutradhar and Uddhab Kakoti, music composer Bibhuranjan Choudhury and senior journalist Baikuntha Goswami.

The theatre group’s president Lalit Sarma will be the president of the committee, while renowned theatre personality and filmmaker Dr Sitanath Lahkar will function as the general secretary.

As part of the procedure that is being followed every year, different drama groups would be invited to perform at the festival depending upon the quality of the plays and standard of performance. For that, Samahar has invited a script of the play along with CD/DVD of its latest performance from willing groups/institutions. The last date for receiving the same is June 30, 2018.
