The West Karbi Anglong district administration on Saturday demolished a border pillar which was allegedly erected by Meghalaya government in the land of Assam.

The pillar was set up by Meghalaya in the Assam’s soil under Khanduli border outpost in West Karbi Anglong district, which is 150 kms from Diphu.

A team of police and civil administration officials led by West Karbi Anglong DC Debajyoti Hazarika and SP Mrinal Talukder demolished the pillar.

Sources said the pillar was erected by the district administration of Jaintia Hills district, Government of Meghalaya.

Tension in East Karbi Anglong along the bordering areas of Assam often grips due to alleged incursion attempts made by miscreants from Meghalaya.

Locals alleged that miscreants from Meghalaya earlier also damaged school buildings and public structures in the area.

According to local residents, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the state government have paid no heed to the area.

Over the years no development works have taken place in the area. The area is yet to come under mobile network coverage and deplorable condition of road has made life miserable for the border residents.

The people of the area have made representation to KAAC a number of times seeking steps for development of the area but there is no progress in this regard.
