Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the BJP and their ally, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) in BTC will jointly fight in the ensuing Assam Assembly polls 2021 in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

The convenor of BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and finance minister Sarma said this on Saturday after attending a felicitation and organizational meeting of the BJP held under the aegis of the party’s Kokrajhar district committee at Sikhnajhar Taekwando Gymnasium, Kokrajhar.

Talking to media persons, Sarma said they have already discussed the matter of fighting the State Assembly polls 2021 jointly with UPPL.

Sarma said, “The Pramod Boro-led BTC government has started working with transparency keeping faith in all the communities of the region.”

He also said, “Massive corruptions took place during the Hagrama Mohilary-led BTC government and the existing coalition government in BTC will institute an inquiry into the anomalies in the big schemes and projects implemented in the region.”

Sarma, who is also the education minister of the state said, “The HSLC and HS examinations in the state will begin from May 11 and 12 respectively.”

The BJP meeting, which emphasized on fielding candidates in the 12 constituencies under BTR, was addressed by Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, MP Dilip Saikia, former Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary.

The meeting was also attended by Assam minister Bhabesh Kalita, MPs Pallab Lochan Das and Ashok Shinghal, MLA Angoorlata Deka, ex-MLA Rekha Rani Das Boro and other senior leaders.

Meanwhile, the state BJP also felicitated new BTC chief Pramod Boro and deputy chief Gobinda Basumatary during the felicitation programme.

Speaking to media persons, BTC chief Boro said, “To ensure corruption-free governance in BTR and check the misappropriations by the previous government, we have taken various initiatives.”

He said, “The schemes undertaken by the previous government are being checked and verifications of the ongoing projects are also going on.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the PWD minister, had a meeting with higher officials of the PWD of BTC in the BTC auditorium hall after the end of the BJP meeting.
