NEW DELHI: In a candid discussion with news agency PTI, Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of parliamentary democracy, asserting that the BJP’s approach will remain unchanged as long as Modi is in power.
Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi likened the opposition’s growing strength to a “wall of defenders”, with over 230 MPs in the INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha.
Gogoi expressed scepticism about the longevity of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, predicting that Modi’s leadership style may prevent him from completing a full five-year term.
He stated that the INDIA bloc’s increased numbers in Parliament would prevent the BJP from bulldozing bills and suspending MPs without resistance.

“They had suspended 146 MPs last year; will they suspend 236 this time?” the Congress MP from Assam questioned.
Dismissing claims that NDA allies like TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu and JD-U’s Nitish Kumar succumbed to the BJP during government formation, Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi described them as “shrewd political minds” whose true intentions would be revealed over time.
“Till the time Modi is there as PM, I don’t think their approach to Parliament is going to change,” Gaurav Gogoi said, accusing the BJP of trying to bulldoze, suspend, disqualify, and poach.
