GUWAHATI: Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has strongly criticized the BJP government’s plans for Kaziranga National Park, expressing concerns over the potential impact on the region’s rich biodiversity and local communities.

Kaziranga is home to rich flora and fauna. For decades, this ecosystem has been protected by the locals and administrations alike. Trust the BJP government to put all this in jeopardy and prioritize the profits of select hotel chains who wish to set up operations in Kaziranga,” said Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.

According to Gaurav Gogoi, the proposed development projects have already led to the forced displacement of tribal residents in the region.

Tribals living in the region are being forcefully displaced from their homes. The habitat of elephants and other endangered species is being destroyed. Farmers who depend on the region for livelihood are facing an uncertain future. Their protests have fallen on the deaf ears of the government,” he claimed.

Gogoi stressed on the detrimental effects these plans of the BJP-led Assam government could have on Kaziranga’s fragile ecosystem.

He criticized the government’s apparent disregard for the well-being of the local population.

“Such plans which endanger the fragile ecosystem of Kaziranga cannot be implemented. It is unfortunate that the BJP government in Assam only cares about a select few companies instead of the region and the people,” he added.
