The chief manager of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) Manab Jyoti Dowerah has died of Covid19 infection at the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh on Wednesday.

The 45-year-old BCPL official passed away at around 11.30 am.

Dowerah was undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) for the last couple of days.

“We have condoled the sudden demise of Manab Jyoti Dowerah. He was undergoing treatment at AMCH after being tested Covid19 positive. Today, we heard that he left us for the heavenly abode,” said a BCPL official.

Dowerah left behind his wife and two children.

He hailed from the Jorhat district of upper Assam.

“He was the first BCPL employee who has died of Covid19. We have lost one of our dedicated and sincere employees,” the BCPL official added.

On Tuesday, 62 people tested Covid19 positive in Dibrugarh out of 1,609 tests.

Manab Jyoti Dowerah was a diabetic patient.

“Manab Jyoti Dowerah was diabetic and had many other complications. We are taking all necessary precautions in our district,” said Nabojyoti Gogoi, the joint director of health services, Dibrugarh.

“Covid19 positive cases are likely to increase, but it will decrease after that spike. Those, who are above 45 years of age, should take the vaccine,” said Gogoi.

According to sources, Manab Jyoti Dowerah travelled to Guwahati recently with his family and after test, all of them tested positive for Covid19.

“He was in home isolation but when his health condition deteriorated, he was admitted to AMCH for treatment,” Gogoi further said.
