ATDC chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah on Tuesday said the campaign was launched in collaboration with search engine Google.

The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has launched a digital campaign of “Awesome Assam” in collaboration with Google.

ATDC chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah on Tuesday said the campaign was launched in collaboration with search engine Google so that it reaches to maximum number of people across the globe.

The recent violent incidents in Assam particularly over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) have affected the state’s tourism industry in terms of booking cancellations in the peak season that starts from December and continues till March.

“As part of the campaign, Google display network will be leveraged to capture potential tourist’s attention and put our ads in front of people to drive interest and also remind people who have previously visited our sites,” Baruah said.

He said that these ads will run across the web allowing us to reach millions of audience.

“Youtube will be leveraged to reach the most relevant audience as online video audiences are receptive and captive. More than 264 million people engage with Youtube every month,” he said.

“Google is a global leader in digital advertising and its products and platforms offer unparalled reach across the globe. With this campaign we will be targeting tourists from across the globe focusing on USA, UK, Australia, and countries closer to India like UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Nepal, Bhutan and Thailand,” he said.

Baruah said the search engine will also work to provide prominent advertising presence to Assam tourism when a perspective tourist is searching for, reading about or watching videos for destination search.

At least ten countries including USA, UAE, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Israel, Taiwan, Russia and Singapore have already issued travel advisory to the citizens following the violence in Assam.

Baruah further said the department is also planning to organize road shows in Mumbai, Bangaluru, Goa and in Hyderabad to promote Assam as best and safe tourist destination in February this year.
