The Dudhnoi police of Lower Assam’s Goalpara district launched an operation on Friday night at Chibinang in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district and rescued a kidnapped youth.

The youth was rescued unharmed by the police.

He was kidnapped from Damra Bazar near the Assam-Meghalaya border in the last week of August month.

Briefing the media about the incident, Goalpara’s additional superintendent of police Amitav Basumatary said, “The youth, Rofikul Islam, was abducted at gun point on August 22 by a group of kidnappers.”

“He was then taken to the neighbouring Meghalaya State. The kidnappers then contacted Rofikul’’s family and demanded ransom money of Rs 30 lakh,” police sources said.

Police sources further revealed that the victim’s family immediately lodged an FIR with the Dudhnoi Police Station.

The Dudhnoi police, after a proper investigation, found the Meghalaya link with the case.

On Friday night, Dudhnoi police, under the supervision of inspectors Mahendra Lahakar and Sumit Talukdar, aptly assisted by the Meghalaya police, launched an operation at Chibingang in West Garo Hills.

During the operation, one Anower Hussain of the group was nabbed from the Guptuli hill.

From his possession, the police also recovered 3 hand-made guns and 6 uniforms used by the Indian army.

The accused was taken to Assam after arrest He was arrested and brought to Assam.
