Assamโ€™s golden girl of boxing ring Ankushita Boro, who had drawn attention of all after winning gold in the World Youth Womenโ€™s Boxing Championship in 2017, has again brought laurels to Assam by winning gold in first North East Olympic Games, Imphal.

Stating about her win at Imphal, Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal, who has recently been appointed as the new Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) chairman, tweeted on Sunday: โ€œBoxing sensation of Assam Ankushita Boro strikes gold in first NE Olympic Games in Imphal.โ€

Congratulating Ankushita for her achievement, Singhal further tweeted: โ€œCongratulation Ankusita Boro. People of Dhekiajuli are feeling proud. In Nov 2017 she won gold at the AIBA World Youth Womenโ€™s Boxing Championship.โ€

Ankushita was appointed by the Assam Government as the Brand Ambassador of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme of the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal appointed Ankushita for this post at a ceremony organized on International Womenโ€™s Day on March 8 at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari in Guwahati.

Ankushita scripted history by bagging a gold medal in 64 kg category in the final day of the AIBA World Womenโ€™s Youth Boxing Championships 2017.

Ankushita demolished Russiaโ€™s Ekaterina Dynnik in a 5-0 victory in the light welterweight final.

Ankushita hails from Megaai Gairrani village in Udalguri district.

In the North East Olympic Games 2018, Manipur continues to be on the top of the medal tally with 54 gold, 34 silver and 20 bronze followed by Assam with 93 medals including 29 gold, 34 silver and 30 bronze medals.
